Autopackage is not working on Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06)

I wonder if perhaps the next version of SuSE will include a newer version of OpenAL, since the version with ALUT split into its own library is not that old yet, many distributions haven't picked it up yet. Also OpenSuSE might have it.

Autopackage is very good for our releases, because it makes distributing generic Linux binaries much simpler, but having distribution-specific packages increases the likelihood of VDrift getting included in repositories where users can very easily find, download and install them. This is of course pretty good for the project 8)

We check for ALUT because the game does indeed need it to run, unless compiled with the old_openal flag. The autopackage was compiled with old_openal off, so it has to have an ALUT library present, hence the need to check for it. Unfortunately I'm not sure if it's possible to make an autopackage that can work with both the older OpenAL and the newer one. The autopackage developers suggest including the library along with VDrift in our releases, so that everyone has to use the same version, and we may do this, but I want to find a way to do it that doesn't include importing the entire OpenAL source into the VDrift source tree.
