People have asked for car telemetry data. What types of information would be useful? What output format?

Taken from Wikipedia:

"Some examples of useful measurements on a race car include accelerations (G forces) in 3 axes, temperature readings, wheel speed, and the displacement of the suspension."

Speed is perhaps the best startpoint... Since you can compare laps by looking at a graph showing your speed at all points of a track.

For data format a simple .dat file?

That would be interessting, yes. But also a g-meter (graphically for the normal user and with digits for analysing) on the HUD would be great, to work over the tires, breaks, etc.


But a testtrack would be nice, too. Where you have a special setting for tests like break tests 60-0mph (with a timecounter that runs... but you need either a scripting interface or to hard code this.)

I imaging this:
You start up the test track, press a button (or open a console and enter a command), then you speed up to 60mph, you hear a sound and the car breaks itself or you break. Then you see how long it take and how long the distance was. The same thing for acceleration tests.

And a pylon track. To test the handling.

What do you think? Oh, can those pylons be objects that obey the laws of physics?

Great Idea XTS. Like the idea of using console to find out the braking distance. i would prefer the user braking after three tests and taking the average of all three tests. this is also good for acceleration! GREAT IDEA!
