Telemetry - joevenzon - 09-03-2007 People have asked for car telemetry data. What types of information would be useful? What output format? - Noneus - 09-03-2007 Taken from Wikipedia: "Some examples of useful measurements on a race car include accelerations (G forces) in 3 axes, temperature readings, wheel speed, and the displacement of the suspension." Speed is perhaps the best startpoint... Since you can compare laps by looking at a graph showing your speed at all points of a track. For data format a simple .dat file? http://www.duke.edu/~hpgavin/gnuplot.html <-- On this site at section 3.2 is an example. - cologne - 09-03-2007 Basic data:
Accelerations:
Wheel forces
- xTs - 09-03-2007 That would be interessting, yes. But also a g-meter (graphically for the normal user and with digits for analysing) on the HUD would be great, to work over the tires, breaks, etc. But a testtrack would be nice, too. Where you have a special setting for tests like break tests 60-0mph (with a timecounter that runs... but you need either a scripting interface or to hard code this.) I imaging this: You start up the test track, press a button (or open a console and enter a command), then you speed up to 60mph, you hear a sound and the car breaks itself or you break. Then you see how long it take and how long the distance was. The same thing for acceleration tests. And a pylon track. To test the handling. What do you think? Oh, can those pylons be objects that obey the laws of physics? - kidrock - 09-03-2007 Great Idea XTS. ![]() ![]() |
