Better Graphics, and steering - ugotskoold - 06-22-2006
The graphics on this game are good, but does anyone wanna see some dynamic shadows? Or how about reflections on the cars? The graphics are good, but seriously. Lets see some REAL updates. Anyways, I also think we need Changes to the speed and streering if you hit the grass or sand. Also better streering sensitivety. If you hardley hit a sterring key, you will spin on high horespower cars. But when you get low horespower cars, you caan't cut any corners, it hardly turns......... So anyways, this is just my opinion, dont take this as an insult. This game is still a good drift simulator.
P.S. Also get some more game modes...... :!:

Thanks for the feedback. Thelusiv has been bugging me about adding dynamic shadows and reflections, too. At the moment I think I'm comfortable with our mediocre graphics while we improve the gameplay, but I'll bump up graphics on the priority list.
The next release already has some new steering modes that will vastly improve the problems people are complaining about -- spins are easier to recover from, and it's not so twitchy. It probably improves keyboard steering a bit, but please, use some sort of analog control for the steering if you're not already (you could try the mouse steering, but I'm not sure how easy that is either).
We are definitely planning to decrease the tire grip on sand and grass. We had this implemented in the past, but the new track system removed it. Adding this as well as things like external camera placements around the track (and improving replay features) will be top priority once we get the latest release out (which you want us to do, believe me -- there are so many improvements I don't even remember them).

Anytime soon you guys might take the dynamic shadows thing seriously? Im sure with alot of work, you can make this game look as good as Total Immersion Racing. (a game on mac os x) That game has lots of different settings for the graphics and streering sensitevety. Maybe you guys could use some data from that game :?: Or just use some ideas. Also, just wondering, when is your next version of Vdrift coming out?

I think dynamic shadows would be cool, and I'd like to see them in the game. However there are some other things that are higher priority (like adding fixed camera positions and slippery surfaces to tracks). Once we wrap up some of these problems, we'll look into more dynamic lighting all around.
As for using data from Total Immersion, it depends on the license for that game and the availability of original data (for instance, can we extract track/car models from the game? are we allowed to?)
The next version should be out Real Soon Now , we've got a nice working version with some more good fixes and some nice new features. We had planned to get it out this weekend, and we still may...I am away from home and my computer but will be back tomorrow, and will start getting ready for releasing unless there's some big roadblock that pops up.

Its Possible to extract the data, because there is a whole folder of data. Inside the folder is the cars data, tracks, sprites, controler settings, you name it. I just dont know if were allowed to.....

Total Immersion Racing isn't a opensource game. So it's not possible for us to extract any cars/tracks from it.
If a game is sold in stores it's 99.9% sure that the game is not licensed with a opensource license.
