Really fast car - MindOfChaos - 04-06-2006

Hey i found a porche can get up to 37,816 Kilometres per hour in free fall after you drive off the track before the game crashes.
Tongue

On a not so good my settings are right down and I have 800 x 600 res and my frame rate is only 6 per second. It should be a bit higher I think but then again I do have crap graphics card. Just other car games run faster for the same graphics. Its probably that this game is still in development I guess or maybe I just need to get a decent graphics card.

Anyway this game looks really good so far. I really want to see where its at a few releases down the track.

Hehe, I bet the needle goes around the speedometer about ten or so times before it gets to that speed.

We're aware that some parts of the track are easy to escape. This summer expect to see the tracks get a lot more detail than they have now, especially Nurburgring which is really lacking in some areas. Our new track system has some other bugs which we're aware of, and those will get fixed soon enough (not exactly sure when, but they will be fixed). Smile

Here's some more things you can do to improve performance:
  • run at 640x480
  • make sure texture size is set to small
  • turn off the HUD
  • change the view distance in the game to "low"
  • if that's still not enough, change view_distance in VDrift.config to a value like 200.0.
Using the above options I have made VDrift run on a computer with only a Geforce2 MX400 with only 32MB vram.

It's very likely that other games perform better than ours. Since we have only just written some systems like the track system, these have not all yet been optimized for best performance. One of the biggest performance inhibitors in the game is the physics system, which is a little more complex than some other games' physics, and I'm not sure how well it would run on a computer under 1 GHz (never tried), so that may be an issue too.

Oh I wasn't complaining at all. I think this game is looking really good.

My cpu is a 2.4 ghz P4 but my graphics is only a Geforce 2 with 64 mb of vram. So I think its just the fact I need a new Graphics card.

Just curious. the gt40 maxed out at around 450 a little more believable

The next release contains several performance enhancements, which should decrease the amount of work your CPU and GPU are doing. I'm interested to see how it affects your system. We should have the next release out veeerry soon *looks at Chris*.
