would it be possible just to trace the track. i.e. have one line for the right edge of the track and another for the left one. this would mark the track. have the AI work out the best path based on this information. other than that you just drive on the triangles that make up the track which are marked collide-able.

actually we still have the drive-able flag. maybe we should go back to using it marking the track, pit lanes, etc. drive-able. change the track editor to drive-able parts in a slightly different colour and allow you to pick triangles to mark/unmark drive-able (instead of picking vertices as it does now). what do you think?
