xcode is the only way to do it. There are lots of little hooks in OS X that don't exist anywhere else, and as close as I can tell, xcode is the only development environment that works. I would be interested in seeing what you come up with if you build vdrift on that, versus running what I build, which should work on that. The version I'm running is from the exact same build as the one that failed up top here, and it works flawlessly for me on a 2.16Ghz MacBook and a 2.4Ghz iMac.
