I just checked out the latest code with the brake at start fix in it. 1411?

Seems that I have to map my keyboard car control keys everytime I start the program - they don't stay set after quitting.

One of the changes I made recently caused the controls file format to change. I'm not sure why you'd have to re-bind your controls over and over, though... it should be fine after you do it once. Are there are control related messages in the console? Also, try deleting ~/.vdrift/controls and see if that makes it save the controls properly.

i see the same thing and i started from scratch just to make sure. somehow the first non comment entry in ~/.vdrift/controls ends up being the line "off" (without the quotes) and when you start a new session you lose the settings. i deleted that line and now the setting are persistent across multiple sessions.

If I go into the game and set the controls initially (before hitting "Practice") I can map the keys. Then I go out to the Practice menu and start the session and the keys are gone again.

I have to start the Practice session and then map the keys in order for them to take.

The mappings are not persistent between sessions even after manually creating the .vdrift directory.

Is there something odd about the vdrift user directory structure on Mac OS X? It's "just UNIX" so I am not sure if that is the problem in this case.

I'll sync my copy with the latest and build again later.

Edit: for the record, build 1413 does the same thing.

I try r4013 but something goes wrong.
I lost my setting too and when I try to exit to joystick option menu vdrift crashed (segmentation fault).
I'm investigating about that.
The problem is between r408( work) and 409(crash).
I'm trying to understand if it's a menu problem (there are wings without written "axis deadzone" and "off / %"), configuration files (I've found something about deadzone) or something else (like division by 0).

Have any idea?

You guys need to delete your old user 'controls' file. The format of this file has changed in the latest SVN revisions, and the game apparently has problems parsing the file if it's in the old format. So... go delete this file. On Linux it's in ~/.vdrift/controls, but it's in a different spot on the Mac... does anyone know where it is? If you want you can just search your hard drive for "controls" and delete that file.

that's not it. even if you start from scratch there is a stray "off" as the first uncommented line of the controls file. if you delete it, the controls are persistent across multiple sessions. if not, they go away. this is clearly a bug in the new code.

Okay, I was able to reproduce this and have fixed it. It's because I forgot to update the data/settings/controls file with the new format, and that keeps getting copied over your old controls file if you delete it. This should be fixed in R1414. You might have to delete your controls file one more time before it works. If there are still problems let me know....

also r1414 crash.
The problem is connected with file options.config.
If I use options.config r1408 version in into r1414 , 1414 work

when I change options.config and make scons / scons install, is it correct that changing also other file? (log below)

Build 1414 still appears b0rked on OSX as well.

Preferences are in ~/Library/Preferences/VDrift

Deleting controls in this directory leads to a new controls file being created with the last line (first non commented line besides "joysticktype joystick off") in the keyboard section containing the word "off"

Deleting this line doesn't seem to help.

Deleting all files in this directory does not seem to help (vdrift recreates).

Resetting the controls in game after deleting the content of the file or even the file itself does not "stick".

Entering the game, setting the controls, then entering the practice menu results in no controls.

pwp: run "gdb build/vdrift", and then when the program crashes, type "bt" and paste the result in here. That should print out a backtrace that should help me debug why it's crashing.

reece146: this sounds like exactly the problem that should have been fixed with build 1414. Keep in mind that build 1414 updates the default controls file that gets copied over from the data folder (data/settings/controls), so you're going to have to make sure you've installed the data from 1414 before it will work. Can you confirm that you've done this?

Yep, I rsync my copy of the svn data to /Applications/Games/VDrift/data each time I make a new build.

I will nuke the directory and start from scratch when I get home this PM though.
