Release plan?

Known bugs(issues) in vdrift-2010-06-30:
- Replay doesn't work.
- Car performance test doesn't work(will cause a segfault, cardynamics is not initialised).
- Wheels are rigid, will accelerate overproportionally at surface discontinuities.
- Additional/custom views are broken(won't load).

No need for. There are a number of things that are wip. It would be great if someone went through the cars and checked the wheel meshes, commented out the brake rotor where needed.

just make sure the coordinates and sizes are correct? and cut out rotors for cars that shouldn't have them? i'll also up the e-brake numbers.

i can probably do this within the next few days. any estimate for a release date?

Also some oem_wheels might intersect the brake rotor. This is where the rotor should be commented out.

As soon as possible so that we can focus onto development again. It is just that I need to tag a vdrift-data revision for the release, and I'd like the wheels to look OK.

I also noticed that some of the cars still have rollover issues.

On the balance, though, the handling is much improved from the last release.

We have to inspect the mass particles for those cars.

The T73 median zenter is at -0.4 on the z-axis.

The mass points had z values > 0. The mass center was at -0.1, should have been somewhere at -0.45 or below.

The position of the aerodevices has been completely off too.

Edit: Wow, T73 is really hard to drive(keyboard) without front/rear wing.

i'm sure that means minor intersections are okay.
and cars that should have drums, we'll leave discs on them and maybe make a shared drum mesh to go next to discs in the carparts folder.

Hey portets, can you commit the bits you've got till tomorrow 13:00UTC. I'll take care of the leftovers.

about drum brakes: i haven't really paid much attention to them before. but it seems like they are just cylinders essentially. so the brake rotor code might be able to be used to make brake drums as well. just make it smaller, wider, and load up a custom texture for it, and i think we might have a drum brake.

i only noticed the FF and the RG having any rotor problems, so i removed those. were you also talking about cars with too large of rotors?

this upcoming release is just a piece for people to test out, so things don't really need to be perfect yet.

hey joe, what does vdrift have to be like in order for you to consider it a 1.0 release? or do you consider it there already?
i read a gaming article a while back saying that vdrift uses a date naming system because you don't consider it 1.0 status.

vdrift-data-2010-06-30 tagged, will update cars.vdrift.net.

I'd rather go with the current scheme. Or something like vdrift 2010.06. But I guess you are asking when the game is going to be considered as complete/stable.

Well, it's not really the kind of project with a beginning and end (or even a very definite roadmap, most times) -- it's just constant development/improvement as long as someone wants to develop and improve it. :-)

Joe I'd be happy to help out with the windows binary. But what about ubuntu, mac? I guess we are going to bundle the same cars, tracks like with the previous release?

I can do the windows one (unless you really want to) because I've already got it set up and ready to go. I'll also release a linux source package. For the mac and linux distro binaries, we'll need help as usual. :-)
