F1-02 "prerelease"
Because i have no more time to test and tune next week, my currentversion 5_0_2 is published for testing:
http://www.aikx.de/vDrift/F1-02_5_0_2_20080105.zip
The name is F1-02 and the color is blue, so that it differs from the release F1 (green). It represents nearly the 2002 state of a Williams.
I drive it with gamepad, ABS activated and Speed Affect on Steering
70% !
There are some things not perfect. Please drive it and give me Feedback!

A new F1 !! good news.
First, this car crashed until I changed engine.wav (22Khz) with engine.wav (44.1Khz) from green F1.
I tried it in Monaco and usually I drive your F1-SL slow version for Monaco so I can compare both.
This F1 is really great, the engine is well tweaked, it's a pleasure driving it but only with Speed Affect on Steering 70% (I use a wheel ferrari thrustmaster).
I think clutch is really good.
I think the brakes are not perfect, it takes longer for braking, and sometimes at the same speed than green F1 I loose control (for example after swimming-pool).

Hello, skankerror

I didn´t know about this difference!? It worked on my PPC iMAc.

Monaco is not one of the best tracks for this car, I know. The F1-02 goes well on faster and not too bumpy tracks. It´s not better on Monaco than the old Version. May be of the F1-SL the downforce-center lays more before the mass-center, so the car reacts better on steering. On the other side i had problems, with an outbreaking rear... I tried to made this neutral.

I used 40% with any other version before with Gamepad. But this one is much more direct.

Yes, i feel so. May be the much harder suspension makes the difference. The fast entry to swimming-pool is ok, the following right and opening left is hard to brake. I use second gear and the trick is to brake a little bit earlier and to open the brake before the corner. Then turn in with faster speed... (ABS makes the problem?)
Try the F1-02 on Nuerburgring (it´s incredible!) or any other faster track.
Much fun!

Modification on brake-force distribution
I made a little change in the brake-force distribution ( 69/31 -> 63/37) and the car is much better driveable, especially in Monaco.
Download the 5_0_3 Version: http://www.aikx.de/vDrift/F1-02_5_0_3_20080108.zip
Changes in the "F1-02.car" -File:
[ brakes-front ]
...
bias = 0.63
[ brakes-rear ]
...
bias = 0.37
Monaco: 1:24,5
Road Atl.: 0:54,9
Hockenh.: 1:18

I didn´t know about this difference!? It worked on my PPC iMAc. I'm on ubuntu with svn version of vdrift and that doesn't work. And sound is much better at 44.1 KHz

I always use second gear at this moment, maybe braking earlier is the trick to go faster, I think ABS and TCS work good, I just have to drive differentely with this car.

Yes it is, a real pleasure !!
Just another point, with your tweaking engine I always have problems with starting, that's terrific !! Since I'm gone I'm gone but the problem is to go...
The way to start is to disable TCS, raise RPM at N and then quick jump to 2 or 3... and pray... and do it again till it works.
That's easier with F1-02 but I don't have any problems with original F1, do you know where it comes from ?

Your second version brakes better, no doubt !!
I noticed a problem with texture of tyres, wheel_front.png and wheel_rear.png don't seem to be loaded by wheel_front.joe and wheel_rear.joe.
When I use .joe from green F1, it loads them (but I don't have good tyres !)

Brakes now changed to:
Code: [ brakes-front ]
bias = 0.60
[ brakes-rear ]
bias = 0.40
2 seconds in Monaco on first try!
I am working on the start-problem...
The original F1 has a ship-diesel...
I know, there is no texture on the wheels. The green F1 doesn´t have the modell tyres, but any other, not Formula one.
I will try to map in blender, but this will be hard. If one of our "carbuilder" could do this???

I beat my personal record with 1:22,1, this car is really great once you learned how to drive it, now I can't drive original F1 no more.
That's really good job cologne
Braking is very efficient, it doesn't have too much starting problems, turns well and goes fast.

+ I tuned a little bit the engine.
- The tyres doesn´t have any mapping or correct colors.
- i don´t have the 41khz Soundfile to completly test in svn.
o I would like to test a realistic - beginning on the underbody - collision.joe
The F1-02 drives very good. As you want, i can make a actual package for svn.

Quote:Is the old F1 still the one that is oversized and all wrong? Or did that get fixed already?
The F1-02 includes the realistic sized body of the old F1 and real F1 Tyres (without texture).
The car definition is nearly complete new, realistic and works very well. At last, i lowered the engine inertia, making the engine more aggressive, but gives better control of wheelspin.
I will make an package including the blend-file and publish it soon. You should exchange the sound-file to 41kHz.
