Skyline GTR *WIP
It's good to be back! I just got started on a Skyline GTR although my modeling skills aren't really up to par with what I've been seeing!

Unfortunately, I tried decimating after sub-surfing the car, but the mesh came out to be non-manifold so it does not work! Sad

Looks like a good start! What do you mean by decimating and sub-surfing...what are you using to create the model?
11-15-2006, 11:00 PM,
I'm using Blender to make the car, but I was modeling it from extruded vertices and filling in the faces. I subsurfed it to smooth out the polys but now the poly count is around 12,000 so I have to reduce the face count by decimating.

Is there anything out there for NURBS modeling for vehicles?

OK, I see. Well, most of the cars we have now are not subsurfed at all. While I really like the nice rounded edges you got in that render, it may be pretty hard to get all that detail and still keep the poly count low. Most of our cars are only around 4000 faces or so.

If you do want to make a high poly count model, we have been thinking about adding some, that wouldn't be terrible...but I think we'll still want to give some users the option of switching back to low poly count models. Like video card is slow Sad

Don't forget that eventually the windows will need to be separate objects from the body.

Looks good so far, though!

Yup, windows will be easy to separate, but I think I'll give this one another go as the face count is way too high. Just curious... What method do you use to model your cars?

I begin with 2 circles around the wheels. Then I extrude some vertices to connect the bottom. then I model the door and the rest of the side. If thats done the basic shape of the car is already visible. I don't use subsurf because that will get you to a very high poly count very fast. I just extrude vertices until the shape is made and then work my way from there.
