Some free car models for VDrift
Hello there!

I have some car models made in Blender, and could use some help getting them into VDrift. I can do the graphics side, but someone else would have to take care of the physics settings etc. The files can be found here. They're all released under Creative Commons, so there should be no problem using them with VDrift.

I already got the Miura graphics exported somehow:

that's some nice work.
that's some nice work!

what exactly do you think you need help with?

is it just the .car files?? do you have any desire to learn how to do them and want some tips or do you just not want to mess with it at all? if that's the case, then me writing (by write i mean copy from another car and tweak) some basic .car files for them is no big deal. but it's sooo incredibly easy to "write" a .car file. if you're interested at all i'd be happy to tell you all i know.

Exactly, I was hoping someone could create the .car files since I'm not really that interested in that side of things right now. Of course it is easy to just copy an existing one but that would just make the cars handle exactly the same wouldn't it? Smile

I can eventually help with tuning the .car files; I'm just not good at finding the correct coordinates for things in blender.

yeah, they will handle mostly the same. but most cars sorta do.

i usually fudge lots of coordinates for things. and i don't often play with the massive tire section.

do you want to split them up into the body, interior, glass, etc. joe files and i'll try to get the .car files going? or would you rather i try to do the rest of the exporting.

note: i procrastinate allot on doing uv mappings (ugh!). mostly cause everytime i change the mesh i feel like it's best to start from the beginning on the uv map. though it might not be too bad if the meshes are already final.

i need to see what's up the data svn, it seems to want to re-download everything a second time. letme ask Joe about that.

They already have UV maps, so no need to do those Smile I got the Miura stuff exported and tweaked now, should I just post them here? I'll probably start working on the Stilo next...

If you PM me here or on IRC I'll set you up with SVN access, and then you can commit them.

Just committed the miura as SV in the vdrift-data repository. The .car file and engine sound was borrowed from XS so it probably won't behave anything like an average 70's sports car Smile

I can help tweak the physics. I found a good resource:

I decided to work on the Audi instead. I'll have to rework all the texture maps since it's made with multiple objects using different textures  And I'm not sure if it's possible to use multiple .joe files for the body and wheels. Anyway here's the result of the first export

I updated the SV car file. It's a *very* fun car to drive. Plenty of power, but I kept the suspension fairly soft, so you can really power-slide around corners like no one's business. Low drag for better top speed.

Nice car!
Please upload additionally the .blend-file. I will take a look to masses and diemensions for the .car-file.

The glass of windshield seems a bit too dark.

Update: I found the file. :-)

I don't think I have the required motivation to start remapping the S1 right now (maybe later), but my other Audi is something I could put into VDrift. Still very much WIP but it's starting to look like something...
