A way to exchange replays and rename them.
Well the "Challenge time" thread got me thinking. We have replays. And I guess you can share them by overwriting your records?

In my eyes it would be nice if the Replays menu would be a list of replays and there was a possibility to rename them. If you download one and just put it in the replays directory it should be listed too.

Are the replays bound to their numerical number or would it be possible to play a replay that has the filename "car-track-date.vdr"? Because then It shouldn't be too hard to put the file list of the replaydirectory in the current selection thing and so we could share replays.

Stefan.

PS: I would give it a shot myself but i'm not good in C++.

There are some issues with replays, the biggest one being that they are different on 32 bit/64 bit/big endian/little endian systems. So it's difficult to do real sharing of replays. Here's the issue that represents the fix for this: http://code.google.com/p/vdrift/issues/detail?id=4

Your ideas are definitely good ones and we'd definitely like to have a more complete replay selection screen, etc (see this issue: http://code.google.com/p/vdrift/issues/detail?id=38), not to mention some other issues exist with replay such as this one: http://code.google.com/p/vdrift/issues/detail?id=47

Feel free to leave comments on those issues, or continue posting your ideas. Just wanted to let you know we're already thinking about some of that stuff. Smile

I really like how the gran turismo HD concept demo (for ps3) works... after you do some laps, it uploads your best time to a ranking server and you can see where you place. It also does it for drift scores. Also, there's a way to download and watch replays from the top 10 people on the list. Something similar for VDrift would be really cool.

Oh that would be great! XMoto ( http://xmoto.tuxfamily.org/ ) has something like that too. In xmoto you can start a new highscore board that you share with your friends.

I've played a good bit of XMoto myself and I always thought it has a nice highscore board. We could probably come up with something similar for VDrift...
