JOE Export: Model Prepping?
So I have my car model finished along with the textures and wheels and glass. I tried exporting the model and I'm not sure how everything needs to be set up because everything was on a weird axis.

I have my textures in a separate folder titled "Images" and my car model in the main folder.

The questions are:
1. Before exporting, what axis do the different parts of the car have to face?

2. Where do the textures have to be or do they have to be bundled?

The tutorial kind of skimped in those places but it got everything into the game Big Grin

Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming by tutorial you mean this? http://vdrift.net/faqman/index.php?op=view&t=14

To answer your questions:
QNev Wrote:1. Before exporting, what axis do the different parts of the car have to face?
Positive Z is up, positive Y should point in the same direction that the nose of the car is pointing. Set your car up like this and then export the glass as one object called glass.joe, the body as one object body.joe, the interior as one object interior.joe. wheel.joe is just one single wheel. I believe it is a left wheel. The differences between the models are, glass can have [semi-]transparent textures, body gets a reflection, interior has none.

QNev Wrote:2. Where do the textures have to be or do they have to be bundled?
The textures go in data/cars/Car/size/ where Car is the name of the car and size is large, medium or small. large textures should be 512x512, medium 256x256, small 128x128. Each of the models you set up should have a corresponding texture in all 3 sizes. The textures are not bundled.

Alright.. One more problem. I think I have everything set up and in place, but when I select the vehicle, the game crashes before displaying it in the menu. Is this common? How can it be resolved?

Thanks.

Hy,

Do you also have a .car file for your car?
If your car is for example named ft then the .car file has to be named ft.car
I've had the crash problem when no .car file was included in the directory of a car I've made. The .car file is the file with the car settings in it by the way.
Your car also has to be the right size, not that Vdrift will crash, but just a tip.

Just a couple more clarifications: the body.joe object texture is body.png, the interior.joe object texture is interior.png, and the wheel.joe object texture is wheel.png. Also, the wheel should be centered at 0,0,0.
