Yeah good point on the unsatisfiable licensing zealots. However we are at their mercy to a degree for getting VDrift into a lot of people's hands through their packaging system, which will aid its inclusion in various Linux gaming CDs and other collections, which we've been missing out on so far.

You make a good point on sketches. I should start designing a bland/generic car by hand and go from there. That would definitely get the creative juices flowing better than trying to start from the model.

The idea with this car will be to duplicate the handling characteristics of the best drifting cars, also be a competitive race car, and not look bad.

I agree that we need realistic cars because that's what everyone will want. Don't forget though, one of the most popular underground PC racing games is Live For Speed, which has no "real" cars at all, all fictional ones. I think we can come up with something that can establish its own mini history and unique style that will appeal to people who grab the game to try it out, and they can use the data manager (when it's finished) to get more realistic cars supported by the community. That satisfies the licensing zealots and lawyers as well as lets our users get the cars they love from "real life".
