3D Models Proposal

thelusiv Wrote:Reece, you have an awesome car. I don't suppose you've heard about the Club Racer version coming out soon? Even different suspension from the original two versions. The XS in game is closer to the AP2 because I like those better personally. At least, in terms of the numbers I could find and use, and the model itself, I followed the AP2 where I was able to.

Yeah, the CR is pretty cool. If I wanted a dedicated track toy that's what I'd have for certain. I got my MY2000 about two weeks ago and have been tickled pink with it so far. The F20C soundtrack is awesome. Smile

Truly, the difference between an AP1 and an AP2 is hair splitting. I'd take any of them in an instant. They are noticable differences though, provided you don't have a "numb bum". The general rule of thumb for S2k shopping is the standard "find the best car you can afford". They are all good with little subtleties.

Quote:My worry is less about Honda (what do they care about some little free game - they haven't dealt any action against Racer which one could argue has enjoyed more popularity than VDrift), and more about people like the Debian folks who are going to want to know for sure that the cars are legal for distribution. I imagine someone flagging the data as suspect for this reason...on the other hand, TORCS is distributed through Debian and other distributions without complaint (so far as I've seen) and it even includes the names of many cars.

I just want to make sure that the car we decide to distribute covers our ass legally in every possible respect so we don't have any more hangups trying to distribute the game. We can always distribute more games to users after they have the game through a data manager app.

I understand/agree 100%.

My $0.02...

I still say that since you did the car from scratch it should be good enough. Keep it de-badged and don't say what it is in the .car file - or say something like "loosely based upon a MY200x Honda S2000" in the comments.

The realitiy is that you can't satisfy some of the licensing zealots regardless of what you do. The next thing will be that you can't use a made up car because the original sketches were saved in a proprietary file format like JPEG or something. Yes, I'm being facetious/ridiculous, just wish some of the zealots would say same.

If say Debian (or whomever) want to not include the package because of some imaginary licensing issue then they are just hurting themselves and their users. There's better things to worry about with this project. Really, vdrift is easy enough to install without a package manager.

We need to be realistic about the product that we are trying to distribute. Car people want to drive "real cars", not some made up thing with no "history".

Anyway, just my spin. Take it for what it's worth (flush, circular file, cherry pick, whatever). Smile
