Scons Compilation error: Source `/usr/lib/libSDL.so' not fou

What up there,
ok so i managed to download and install all required libs without a problem. now after checking for all the libraries and compiling the files, it throws me an error:

scons: *** Source `/usr/lib/libSDL.so' not found, needed by target `build/vdrift'. Stop.
scons: building terminated because of errors.

the thing is that i checked to see if the file existed in that directory and it does, so i'm asking for a little help to see what's causing this. i'm using Mandriva 2007 spring. Thanks!
