Yes the build is done with gcc4 so this is probably the problem. If you're going to download the source, you might want to just go ahead and get SVN since there are some fixes in there that last release lacks. Also, there is an ebuild for Gentoo but it is not in Portage yet. Here's the bugzilla entry:

I'm interested to hear what you think about the physics. Please try all the cars, or at least lots of different ones. Some of them are set up better than others, some of them are not set up well at all. Maybe you can help us get some ideas on how to improve them.
