Check to make sure it's creating the temporary package directory ./tmp-vdrift-build when you run scons autopackage. it might be that it is producing an empty package because it is not creating this temporary directory properly (though it should, dangit!)

You may be able to help it by typing (in the dir where you run scons autopackage)

mkdir -p tmp-vdrift-build/usr/share/games/vdrift/bin/ tmp-vdrift-build/usr/share/games/vdrift/data/
But like i said really it should work anyway...
