I don't have any numbers yet. But that is what I gathered from bullet forum. The ray test is not optimized. It is traversing the whole scene. Collision objects are exploiting frame coherence to accelerate collision detection. If the object is not too fast and not too big the collision detection should be very cheap. I am not sure if the frame coherence is considered in the narrow phase(object vs object) but they are caching/reusing collision contacts from previous frames.
