Hardware: steering wheel and pedals?

What are people using for s teering wheel and pedals for vdrift? I don't know much about this market place so it's probably better to ask.

Oh, I'm on Mac and Linux (mostly Mac) if it makes a difference for hardware suggestions.

I have an older "Logitech Momo Racing Force" force-feedback wheel. This is one of the simple wheels that doesn't really do a whole lot...it is USB so it would probably work with about anything. I use it on Linux, there is of course no force-feedback support though...but it works. More often I use my Logitech WingMan game pad instead so that I don't have to have the big wheel blocking my keyboard all the time...

I use a older M1cr0s0ft Force Feedback wheel and pedals. They work fine in Windows XP and linux, you can buy them pretty cheap at ebay and they last long, don't buy the serial one but the USB one.

I have a (red) Logitech Momo with a Act-Labs shifter and I'll buy a Logitech G25
I would avise one of these of course, but the latter is 270$. For cheaper (30-40$), a second hand black Momo would do the job. The problem with the Microsoft is the drivers, even the USB one... I had one and the FFB never really worked, even thought the wheel itself is allright

Nothing wrong with that - I've got two kids and use one of those. It's a lot cheaper to replace if they break it... :roll:

it'll probably "work" on Linux (I mean the axis and buttons will be recognized), but don't expect much (no force feedback, no configuration... no drivers)

if you're not planing to use it on Windows's simulations at all, buy something cheaper :roll:

is there any Unix/BSD simulation that worth buying a G25 to play without force feedback ? I don't know any

I'd buy it to play on rFactor, Richar Burns Rally and others recent great simulations, I've been in a Grand Prix Legends league for 6 years, I have a TrackIR 4 also... don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't buy that for vDrift :wink:

a cheap second hand black Logitech Momo Racing Force is a great wheel, up to the job for most sims. Very few sims have a proper clutch management, and nowadays very few racing car use a manual gearbox instead of flappy paddles gearbox or up-down-shifter

I heard a lot of people are buying a G25 to play on Gran Turismo 4 because it works on PS2... that's ridiculous :roll: even thought I'm pleased to see that Logitech found a way to sell lots of them

Honestly, the gearshift and the amount of travel the wheel has (900 degrees) has a whole lot more to do with my liking of it than force feedback. Windows simulations? Come on, I'd need windows first.....I can afford to buy one of these wheels because my OS is *free*! :twisted:
