playdeb.net has been down for a quite a few days now. one of the playdeb devs said they are working on the issue and hope to get the site running again soon. id on't know of any mirrors unfortunately.

if you want, i'd be happy to help you compile the development version or the release from source. the instructions are in the wiki but ask here if you need help.

That would be awesome, I tried to compile it myself earlier today and failed, the game ran, but it consistently froze and changing options in the option menu did nothing, I think I compiled it wrong somehow, since most games run great on my computer.

strange. so it freezes while you are driving? and did you have to exit the game, or wait for it to unfreeze?

also, which version did you compile?

Well after I restarted, the game ran fine, but the sound is going crazy on my system, for about 5 seconds it sounds alright, then it buzzes and hisses for a good minute before it goes back to 5 seconds of good sounds.

if you're on ubuntu 9.10, that's a known issue for quite a few games. i fixed it by adding an empty file titled ".alsoftrc" with:

Quote:drivers = oss

in it. that method doesn't work for all games though and can cause some games to crash. i'm pretty sure it's fixed or being fixed in ubuntu 10.04. i think i'm switching to fedora before that though.

Well I got a copy of windows this morning, so I can happily enjoy this game now with out jumping through tons of hoops to get it running. I love Ubuntu, but for gaming, I'm booting up windows.
