I'm back - protomor - 09-10-2007 Long story short. I quit my last job. Im unemployed right now and feel like some development. My only concern is that its far FAR too difficult to drift in this game. Not to mention drifting well. Is there anyway of easily fixing this? - joevenzon - 09-10-2007 Most of the cars are tuned for grip driving, and re-tuning them for drifting isn't easy -- but it's possible. The best drifter at the moment is the GT, but it's a big lame heavy mustang. Maybe take a look at the wiki page on car parameters: http://wiki.vdrift.net/Car_parameters And then try to make the TL or TL2 more drift-friendly. The most important parameters are probably the tire coefficients and the suspension settings (including the hinge point). - protomor - 09-10-2007 I know. Im the one that found/posted that info. I still say the M3 I posted a while back worked really well. I guess no one liked it tho. - thelusiv - 09-10-2007 Smack me if you want, but I actually never tried your M3. I should have, kept telling myself I'd get around to it. I'll just smack myself... ouch! :? btw, great to have you back - protomor - 09-10-2007 Thanks I just need to figure out a simpler way to make levels. Its a bit too complex right now. Gotta figure out the controls too. *shrugs* so much to do. sooo much to do. - cotharyus - 09-11-2007 protomor, I'm going to start working on your M3. If you get one of the other cars to drift well, just post it, and I'll work on that too. I don't necessarily like the idea of all the cars drifting exclusively, you'll note that in SVN we now have the GT that Joe set up, and I took the base car, and altered some stuff to make the GTR - I'm thinking we can do something similar, with two different base settings as starting points for cars. - protomor - 09-11-2007 I understand not having the cars exclusively drift but right now none of the cars drift. I would rather have them drift too much than too little. It shouldnt be hard to make the M3 not drift under all circumstances. Thanks for showing interest in it. I think it has potential. - cotharyus - 09-11-2007 I think what we're going to do, is have for instance, the M3, as it exists right now and, perhaps an M3-D that will be your drift settings, more or less. - protomor - 09-11-2007 Why? Its Vdrift not Vgrip and sometimes drift. The physics of the game are meant to be true to life. And in real life, drift setups are almost exactly the same (shitty tires in the rear basically). It shouldnt be necessary to have 2 models regardless. - xTs - 09-12-2007 Well, currently we are working on beeing realistic as possible... and nobody drives with a drift car a race. (i have never seen something like that. Just drifting challanges, but then you're alone on the track) even if the name is vdrift, its not a pure drifting game - protomor - 09-12-2007 A few bits of the setup in cars are different. Hydro Ebrake, softer front suspension. But you could slap stickies on it and go too. In game the only diff would be cheap tires on the rear. And if its not a pure drifting game then I should find another project. - joevenzon - 09-12-2007 My original purpose was to create a drifting game, since there are virtually none out there. Once it was apparent that the game worked well as a grip racing game also, I thought about renaming it to "VDrive," but that would have probably confused people. Anyway, I hope that eventually VDrift will have both drifting and grip racing modes (there's nothing wrong with including everybody). Ultimately, it's an open-source, community-based project, so the direction the game takes is largely defined by the people who put in the time and effort. - xTs - 09-12-2007 I'm still waiting for the ingame car modifications menu Then both is possible... maybe cars stored as profiles, with your own tuning and all.... |
