Nurburgring Nordschleife - Ringermatt - 05-17-2007 Hi! Just downloaded this for OSX - as a real-life Ringer, I can say it's very realistic indeed - right down to the Green Hell cafe! Just got a few suggestions that I think would really add to the game. Firstly, the circuit on Vdrift would really benefit from more of the "bumps" that exist on the track in real life. It's these that make the Ring so exhilerating - and hair-raising. For example, there's a big bump on the crest at Quiddelbach Hohe where the car will actually take off (seriously). Another place where there's a big compression is in the dip at the bottom of Fuchsrohre. I'm able to take this bend at full throttle with Vdrift, but if you do that in real life, you're liable to be killed!! :? Secondly, when I "accidentally on purpose" drove up the Steilstrecke hill, I "fell" off the edge of the world, literally. If that could be modelled so you could actually drive up the 1 in 3 hill to rejoin the track at Hohe Acht, then you'd have something that you should stil be able to do at the Ring, IMHO. Thirdly, I know this is about drifting but at the Ring, the most common currency is the Golf GTi (sorry it's front-wheel drive folks!). While the MC car gives a good flavour of this, it'd be excellent if there was a performance FWD car available - something like the current Mk5 Golf Gti. 200BHP, 6-speed box, and sports suspension and brakes. Speaking from experience, understeer at the Ring is almost as much fun as oversteer Hope these suggestions prove useful. If anybody want to probe my brain from the "real world" perspective I'll be only too happy to help...I'm hopelessly addicted to the Ring  Matt - bugsyv - 05-17-2007 Sweet! I am envious of those who can actually drive on this track ( I guess I could too, but it would be prohibitively expensive ).... actually I can't really afford to do any performance driving, the money and a significant other who frowns on such things is part of the reason I am in to the sim scene. But, the great thing about this project is the opportunity to contribute... I haven't done anything myself yet, so feel free to boo me off the stage, but since you've been there you would probably be most qualified to make the mods you suggest... try your hand with the tools My track would be road atlanta... but i've only ever been on the sidelines. Anyways, I have a question... the track in-game is called the Nordshleif.... but it seems to me it looks more like the GP configuration and not the looong north loop. Is that right? - scabpicker - 05-22-2007 Hey ringermatt, I am totally envious of you as well. I first downloaded the game because it had the Ring and the Caterham, and have dreamed of driving both since I learned of their existence. Despite my fascination with the Caterham (and the old GT40, and the Cobra, and the 911's), I found that the only car that I could drive well at all were the cars that were similar to the sports cars I have owned. You guessed it, FWD hatchbacks. I have owned many fast cars, but they were the only ones that I had owned which handled worth a damn. I liked both the minis, but the new one did not even have as much oomph as my old Escort, so I looked up the specs of the Cooper Works Mini and modded it. It only has the transmission and engine of the JCW, because I do not really understand the tire/brakes models yet, that will come as soon as I understand it better. I have also modded the rearend of the Cobra to a 3.09 ratio (accurate for Jaguars with the same diff, and Shelby would put the ratio you wanted it in it). It makes the car much more driveable, and its top speed is much more enjoyable on the faster tracks. I have also modded the Caterham to have their optional 6-speed, with similar results. If anyone is interested, I'll post it. bugsyv, I think that the Nurburgring in previous releases was the GP track, but the one in the current release is almost certainly the Nordschleife. - bugsyv - 05-22-2007 Ah, that could explain a lot. I am basing my observations on the overhead screen shots in the galleries... I'm not really familiar enough with the track to be able to tell from the tarmac in-game - thelusiv - 05-22-2007 The Ring in VDrift now is not very good at all. However, a little bird told me that there is a better Nurburgring for VDrift on the VDrift-devel mailing list somewhere. That's just what I heard. You'll have to find it on your own. |
