Control details screen - joevenzon - 12-02-2006
I've added separately adjustable deadzone, gain, and exponent values to each and every analog (joystick axis type) control in rev 1409. These are saved in the controls file and applied prior to any other control filters. There is currently no way to modify these in the menu. I'd suggest adding some sort of detailed single control editor menu screen that you can get to from any of the "assign control" menus by right clicking on the control's icon (or something). The detailed control menu would allow you to tweak things like the deadzone, gain, and exponent and see the results in real-time in a bar display that's updated from the control's input value (or draw a graph showing input vs output for the deadzone, gain, and exponent settings). We could also put some advanced options like editing whether buttons trigger on the press or release, changing things from hold to once, inverting the polarity, etc.

This sounds great Joe, I'll work on a menu for these things soon. I don't think right-clicking is the best way to get to it though, since some controls, like joystick, don't necessarily have that. I think maybe the best way to do it would be to put a "Delete Control" button on this new menu you're talking about, and then make clicking on the control go directly to the new menu, instead of deleting the control.

Okay, sounds reasonable. To make it easy to delete controls, maybe we should add a "clear controls for this action" button in the assign controls screen (to the left of the + or something).

This is still on my list of things to do. It's currently holding up release because we can't change the deadzone on joysticks (it defaults to 0). So I'll try to get this fixed but it's turned out to be pretty tricky, so it may be awhile...we'll see.
