C7 Observation - reece146 - 11-26-2006

Way cool! Really dig Lotus 7s.

I noticed that this `7 is setup with cycle fenders.

Any chances the developer of this particular car (kcid?) could make the fenders move up and down since they are attached to the wheel hubs in real `7s? They should move similarly to the tires on the T73 or FF.

Just an observation. The car is a blast to drive. Smile

There is not yet support for objects which move with the wheels/wheel hubs, however it could probably be added easily, and we really should add brakes which move in this manner.

Are you sure? I could've sworn the T73 and FF do this... or maybe it is just the wheels steering and rotating that is giving enough visual feedback... I'll look again when I get home tonight.

Yep, the FF and T73 only have moving wheels. There isn't anything above them that moves. Also on those cars you can see a lot of the suspension pieces but these don't move either.

I've added code for move-able fenders. Brakes that don't rotate with the tire are also supported. This is done with floating-front.joe and floating-rear.joe files. Each file contains the brake and/or fender geometry *in the same frame of reference as tire_front and tire_rear*. As with the wheel_front and wheel_rear, they will be mirrored left to right.

Joe,

The fenders are now included in the seperate floating_front.joe file.
Hope it works, I couldn't test it yet since I've got a new laptop and I've got to install all the files like sdl into Dev cpp, so I can't compile the new version of Vdrift yet.

Nope, not working quite right... I don't think I described what I'm looking for correctly:

floating_front.joe needs to contain a single fender. The fender should be placed according to how the wheel in the wheel_front.joe model is placed. So in wheel_front, the tire is at 0,0,0 (or nearly that), and then the fender should be just above the tire. That fender should be exported as floating_front.joe.

Now it works really well, it's a nice touch that the fenders move with the wheels. Now to make something connecting the wheels + fenders to the car...

LOL!

What a fricken' riot this car is now!

The view through the windshield is great.

You guys rock!

(I'm a little pleased, ya think?)

Another issue with the C7: The view through the hood cam seems off-center. I can see the right wheel's fender more than I can see the left one. This makes me think the model itself is perhaps off-center.

Something is really wonky now...

The in car view is beside the car on the right hand side.

If I have some time I'll check the views tonight

In-car and hood views updated.
