Curb friction - Nexus6 - 10-16-2005
When turning in to a corner, the tyres seem to catch on the curbs fairly strongly, causing the front end to turn in sharply and spinning the car out. I can't work out whether this is actually correct (having not been racing on a track with curbs) but it seems a little severe. Is the curb friction currently set to the same as the road surface? I think it should be lower than tarmac - the curbs are usually painted concrete and shouldn't offer the same grip as the road.
Cheers,
Toby Haynes

The friction is the same, but because the curb is bumpy, the car's tires don't glide over it as easily as a smooth surface, causing the illusion of increased grip. It's actually correct, I believe, as I've heard a lot of people complain about the fact that in GT4, you can run over the kerb going 100 mph and it doesn't affect your car's performance at all. Realistically it should cause you to lose control (or at least upset the car somewhat). In fact, I think it's been used to start a drift before in some competitions (another trick is to drop the rear tires off of the pavement to get them sliding)... but I may be wrong there.
