Control editing troubles - thelusiv - 01-14-2009
Hi everybody, it's me the ghost... ![Smile Smile](https://www.vdrift.net/Forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I was playing a little VDrift last night and made some notes about some issues I found with editing controls.
* Since the values are not displayed for sliders anymore, it's impossible to tell if the Gain setting on controls is set to 1.0.
* When I first set my Gas control it seemed to set strange values for gain and exponent - deadzone was defaulted to 0 while the others had the sliders in a position that would indicate negative values.
* Are the deadzone, gain and exponent for steer left and right automatically matched now? I made changes to Steer Left and then went to change Steer Right but it seemed to be correct already.
It's still pretty hard to set the controls just right...when driving, as I make small adjustments to steering the car tends to dart around instead of make a slight change but still go straight. I tend to set the deadzone pretty low, but make the gain less than 1.0 and ramp up the exponent some so that it compensates for the low gain as the steering angle changes. Still, this doesn't quite smooth it out totally. Any suggestions?

I made sliders display the current value as of R2300 in SVN. Can you update to this, verify your control settings, and see if you still have a problem?

It looks like you found a bug: when the analog controls screen is updated, it erroneously shows the updated values for all other controls that you select until you do an "OK" at the control assignment screen.

Should be fixed in R2303.

OK, that's much better. Thanks.
Another Pause menu bug I found is that if you press Escape in a menu, it exits the menu instead of going back one menu. Is this intentional?

It's because there's no keyboard navigation of the GUI yet (issue 96).

Ah, I see. That makes sense.
