what is the a proper size or wide a track should be?

- NaN - 04-21-2011

The scale is 1:1. A unit in blender is 1 meter.

OK, I've got a problem!
I'm trying to make a new track, I've been through all the steps in blender, and when I edit the track on track-editor the track.txt comes like this:
Code:
start position 0 = 142.320312,0.609973,117.210922
start orientation 0 = -179.589294,73.544479,179.951630
cull faces = on
lap sequences = 2
lap sequence 0 = 0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
lap sequence 1 = 0.000000,851.000000,0.000000
non-treaded friction coefficient = 1.000000
treaded friction coefficient = 0.900000
Then, when I try to run VDrift with that track, I get:
Code:
ERROR: No matching orientation xyz for start position 0
Looking into the code, I've notice that VDrift expects the variables "start orientation-xyz" and "start orientation-w", but the track-editor gives "start orientation"

There are some tracks in the download area that gives me the same problem

Any Ideas?

Looks like you are trying to use new data with old vdrift version. Your vdrift and data revision?

- tatu - 08-26-2011

Yeah, thats it!
Actually there is only one downloadable version of track-editor, and if fits only the development version of VDrift.
I got to compile and install the development version of VDrift on linux, but it took me a little trouble. Everything is fine now.
Thanks!

Windows: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdrift/files/vdrift-trackeditor/
Linux checkout an old revision(2009): https://github.com/VDrift/trackeditor/commits/master

Well, the old version of track editor I don't need anymore, but it's good to know. I'm using both new versios of track editor and VDrift (In fact, the development version seems ok, I don't know if there are any "hidden" issues, but from my point of view it cuold be the sable version)

Sure! Just let me get together all the information and I'll post here everything I needed to do in order to have VDrift up and runnig on my Debian GNU/Linux. ;-)

The packages libbullet0 and libbullet-dev aren't available in Debian, so I had to use Ubuntu's. On the wiki are missing the libbullet0 and the libcurl4-gnutls-dev packages.

This is what I needed to do to compile and install the development version of VDrift:
Code:
sudo apt-get install git git-svn g++ scons libsdl-gfx1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-net1.2-dev libvorbis-dev libglew-dev libasio-dev libboost-dev libarchive-dev libcurl4-gnutls-dev
mkdir vdrift
cd vdrift
wget -c http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/mirrors/pub/getdeb/ubuntu/pool/games/libb/libbullet/libbullet0_2.77-1~getdeb1_i386.deb
wget -c http://95.110.204.80/mirror/getdeb/ubuntu/pool/games/libb/libbullet/libbullet-dev_2.77-1~getdeb1_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i libbullet0_2.77-1~getdeb1_i386.deb libbullet-dev_2.77-1~getdeb1_all.deb
git clone https://github.com/VDrift/vdrift.git
cd vdrift
git svn clone https://vdrift.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/vdrift/vdrift-data data
scons release=1
sudo scons install
Actually I used the package on
Code:
http://mirror.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/pub/mirrors/getdeb/ubuntu/pool/games/libb/libbullet/libbullet0_2.77-1~getdeb1_amd64.deb
because I have an amd64 kernel, but the i386 package should probably work too.

P.S.:I hope I didn't make any mistakes retrieving the information on my logs to post here.

Thanks! I made a first pass at updating the wiki.
