i am working on a new track conversion (imola) but i can't get the horizon and the sky to render properly. this problem has always been there (before the switch to the scenegraph branch) and i just don't understand what's going on.

i am attaching two pictures to illustrate the problem. in the first one, when i don't make the horizon a skybox, the objects get rendered properly:

if i make the horizon a skybox then it kind of bleeds through the track objects which get rendered only as i get close to them (i have the view distance set to maximum).

this particular effect seems to be specific only to this track. i tried borrowing the horizon and the sky from other tracks where i don't see this but the problem persists.

does anybody have any ideas how to fix it? i can probably make the track available if that would help. thanks.

Can you check it into SVN so I can take a look at it?

you can get it from http://caliban.lbl.gov/vdrift/tracks/imola2005.zip
right now the sky and the horizon are set to be normal objects. edit list.txt to make them skyboxes (skyb0389_sky.dof-00.joe and spea0390_bka.dof-00.joe). i am reworking it somewhat so it's not quite ready for svn yet.

well, i don't think it's the horizon that kind of bleeds through, but instead it's just that objects don't get drawn at all until they get closer to the car. it's as if there was some kind of invisible object moving with the car and the objects would get drawn only when this object moved past them. but not all of them. some objects further away get drawn while other closer ones don't until later. it's very weird.

I've been playing VDrift a lot lately and have noticed the issue with some objects not being drawn until they're close as well. I've also noticed that many tracks still have the issues of "bumps" that upset the car violently when driving over them...but this is another issue.

the bumps are the main reason i have a lot of tracks sitting on my disk waiting for the collision code to improve before i check them in. it's gotten a lot better since we switched to opende but there we are not quite there yet.

Does R1799 fix imola for you?

imola is now in svn. enjoy.

This track looks great; I just wish the performance was better! I'll have to try to figure out exactly what's making it go so slowly....

maybe it's the blended transparent surfaces around the pits (all the windows). i can play it on my laptop with low textures so it is playable...

Yes, this track is very nice - the same settings that make everything else playable on my macbook make this track playable as well. This is actually, according to what I've found so far, one of the best tracks overall on the game.
