Full Version: smooth tires

i'm creating normal maps for the tire and adding a couple new tire textures. but now that the tire meshes are code-generated, they can't be set smooth and adding tire shine shows all of the faces.

setting the whole tire mesh smooth in code would blend the tire edges. could it be added in code that for tires, every angle greater than say, 150 degrees be set smooth?

The only problem i see is that tire thread start, end normals differ(edge should be visible).

The per vertex normal interpolation due to large angle between side and thread could mess up the rendering, maybe they should be split along the edge ring.

Would be interesting to see how it looks like with a normal map.
