When choosing Track and car, the car model is rotating around the center/zero-point of the body.

I don´t like the center point of Blender, because it´s very unrealistic and needs curious coordinates.
I tried a more realistic center for the F1 (front axle) , but the preview looks a bit curious.

For every cartype the preview rotation-axis should better computed using a bounding box - given with the car model or determined at runtime.
Good point, I think you're correct it should rotate around the center of the bounding box. I've added it to the issue tracker as issue 112:
