VDrift 2010-06-30 has been released for Windows and Linux (source). Download links are available on the main http://vdrift.net website. Despite the lack of news stories recently, the forum has been very active and development has been progressing at a fast pace. As a result this release is a snapshot during heavy development and so this release may be a little less stable than the previous in some areas. There's a full list of changes below the cut, but to summarize the most noticeable ones:
* rewritten physics engine that fixes many bugs, improves performance, and vastly improves simulation accuracy
* new deferred rendering engine that supports normal maps, true HDR rendering, screen-space ambient occlusion, and soft particles
* meshes for brake rotors, better wheel and tire meshes
* bugfixes and tweaks to control input management
* new sounds
Full change log below:
cars and physics
============
* support for wheel steering, ackermann, caster
* new constraint based suspension simulation including proper unsprung mass simulation
* new constraint based clutch simulation
* new car parameter format
* rolling resistance reimplemented

* suspension bump on overtravel now simulated
* wheel collision method changed, shape now depends on wheel model
* rollover recovery
* chassis collision method changed to use bullet
* additional camera views in .car file
* wheel camber rewrite
* handbrake now applies to the correct wheels
* spring and damper factor curves
* engine inertia fixes
* max steering angle is working again
graphics

A very nice interface created in this version. Good work. But need improvement. Here is my suggestion:
1) no reverse gear. Hope to be added into the game in future version. when crash, sometime need reverse gear to easier control.
2)oil or engine horse power, raise up very slow no a racing engine. Need a better speed.
3)velocity and momentum effect. when in high speed, it's hard to control or break slow down.
4)break, hmm...i think these one need real serious racing driving control. i suggest and back arrow key for braking.
5)when drifting, hope to have some tire effect, a more smooth its mean when slow down due to tire friction.
there are some more area need to improve...above is the smoothness of the playing. a control interface. try need for speed underground a more smooth control.
next the in game improvement. i just hope to have a more easy style to change the care that i wanna drive. and the opponent car easier to change too.
here i stop or else too much to say. LOL. Anyway this released did improve many things over the previous one.
All i need to say is good job. Keep it up and till we get a good smooth drifting. What i want to say is we are able to drift and control in game.

This version completely fails in Windows XP. Such a faulty
release will discourage people to use open source
softwares.
Thumbs Down to all developers of Vdrift.
