I'd love to spruce up the textures a bit and then include it in the next release. I'm never going to be able to finish "indian hill" by myself... I'm just not a good enough modeler. i could try. can we come up with a list of licenses we'd prefer? (the debian zealots need not take part in this discussion, please). thanks. --alex-- - cotharyus - 10-28-2007 Joe - do you think Indian Hill is a wash at this point, or do we leave it hanging around in case someone else wants a shot at it later? - xTs - 10-28-2007 alex: You're doing a great job here in converting and adding tracks, I love to drive them, but i would hate seeing vdrift going down because somebody sues vdrift because of copyright violations. And thats why we have to keep a close look at the copyright. We're not in the Wild West - alex25 - 10-28-2007 xTs Wrote:alex: You're doing a great job here in converting and adding tracks, I love to drive them, but i would hate seeing vdrift going down because somebody sues vdrift because of copyright violations. And thats why we have to keep a close look at the copyright. We're not in the Wild West dude, we are talking here about an original track converted with the permission of the author. there is no copyright violation. the only question was one of licences which your post fails spectacularly to address. what exactly is your imaginary problem now? at the same time, nobody is stopping you from contacting tantra yourself and asking him to release the track under some open source licence. that is, if you want to be useful. --alex-- - joevenzon - 10-28-2007 alex: I asked the free software foundation (FSF) about licenses for artwork and they recommended the following: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#OtherLicenses Of those, wikipedia says that they like the "Free Art License" the best: http://artlibre.org/licence/lal/en/ - alex25 - 10-28-2007 joevenzon Wrote:alex: I asked the free software foundation (FSF) about licenses for artwork and they recommended the following: thanks. i'll ask tantra if he is willing to release his track under an open source licence. let's hope for the best. --alex-- - kcid - 10-29-2007 What do you guys mean with tracing the Indian Hills track? I can build some scenery round the track. Cotharyus: do you want scenery like VIR? Or with a mountain etc? Joe is it possible for you to trace the track or tell me how to do it? - cotharyus - 10-29-2007 kcid - I was thinking something like VIR scenery for the track, yes, sort of through some fields with some trees here and there, nothing overly complex. - joevenzon - 10-29-2007 kcid Wrote:I can build some scenery round the track. If you want to give it a shot, I put all of the blend files I made in the vdrift-art repository under tracks. Some of the later blend files were random ideas that didn't turn out very well. I had too much trouble trying to make the scenery flow into the road seamlessly. Anyway, if you just work in blender and make some nice scenery and stuff around the track, I can take care of getting it into VDrift. - kcid - 10-29-2007 Joe, Which blend file is the most up to date one, so which one should I work with? Is indianhill9-export.blend the correct one? - joevenzon - 10-29-2007 Use indianhill25.blend and delete the landscape I tried to put in there. For the track, if you apply the modifiers the track objects will become real meshes. |
